Berth Charters: Sailing holidays aboard the Cherokee - 2010/2011
From May 2010 you can book for a unique sailing trip on board of our yacht, a Bavaria 50. These new sailing trips aboard the "Cherokee" vary from trips of five days to trips of a complete week (see
sailing scheme ), you can combine the week-trips successively as long as you may wish. The character of the sailing trips is adventurous and sporty, but also relaxed with time for yourself and for visiting onshore.
The ship the Cherokee is being optimised at the moment for sailing with guests at sea. To this end a lot of attention is paid to the safety and comfort of the guests.
Because of the speed and comfortable sailing features that characterize the Cherokee, new
sailing areas come within arm's reach, for example the Canary Islands and Madeira. In consultation with all guests and depending on the weather and the possibilities, the journey will be mapped out.
Every evening a harbour will be visited or the Cherokee will drop anchor, it can also be decided to stay in one place for a day for visiting an island or a city.
• 5 days-trip Great Brittany
In springtime we offer you trips of five days from Vlissingen (the Netherlands) to the English coast. During these trips one can experience how close Great Britain is to the Netherlands. Apart from enjoying the sailing itself, you will also enjoy the English atmosphere, the chalk rocks and the pleasant pubs. In case the weather is not good the Cherokee can make way to the Belgium coast, French coast, the waters in Zeeland or the 'Waddeneilanden' (Dutch islands near the north coast of the Netherlands).
• Channel Islands and Brittany
During the summer the Cherokee will set off for longer sailing trips. It will sail from the Netherlands to Cherbourg in Normandy. Cherbourg and Brest will become starting points for week-trips to the Channel Islands and Brittany. This is a particularly beautiful sailing area with impressing cliffs, rocky coasts, castles and fords, authentic little fish harbours and a tide difference that can run up to nine meters.
• The Algarve and Lisbon
In end of August the Cherokee will leave via the 'Ria's' (the fjords) of northern Spain to La Coruna and Lisbon. This is a wonderful sailing area and especially Lisbon is beautiful and pleasant. In Lisbon the typical Portuguese Fado's can be enjoyed during dinner in the restaurants, where the food in general is of good quality too. The old quarters are attractive and the castle near the city centre, looking out on the city centre and beyond, is worth paying a visit. The Cherokee will finish the summer season at the south coast of Portugal, the Algarve, with a guaranteed good after summer. In this area the weather is good at this time of the year and there is a major chance to see dolphins during sailing.
• Canary Islands
In the end of December the Cherokee will leave for Madeira and the Canary Islands. During Christmas and New Years Eve the Cherokee will sail in the area of the Madeira Archipelago. Anchored, lying in the bay of Funchal with its countless little lights up against the mountainside, this place is indescribable beautiful.
In January and February the Cherokee will offer week trips departing from La Gomera. These trips are ideal for getting some well deserved extra sun. Because of the average temperature of 23 degrees Celsius, it always seems to be spring on the Canary Islands and with the constant northeast trade wind it is a perfect sailing area with lots of dolphins and also whales. The Islands originating from volcanoes, all have a characteristic landscape. The rough and varying coasts in combination with the pleasant Spanish little harbours make these sailing trips a fantastic experience.
• Berth Charter
It is not necessary to have sailing experience, at the start of the journey the crew will explain to you the important things about the ship and about sailing. During the trips you are welcome to help (if you want to) along with all the aspects of sailing at sea meaning; setting the sails, steering, navigation and the like.
• Sailing holidays for singles, couples or groups
You can book the Cherokee as a single, a couple or a group, in an area of your choice. In total the Cherokee has room for eight guests. The certified skipper and host is experienced with sailing at sea and around the Canary Islands. Besides the skipper a mate is aboard. The crew does the shopping and arranges the food on board, but you are welcome to help the crew with this. The sailing together, running onto unknown shores, eating and celebrating the holiday create a pleasant group atmosphere and a lot of fun. That is why we hope to meet you on this unique ship in a beautiful and divers sailing area!
