Canary Islands
The Canary Islands are close to the African mainland, at about 28 degrees north latitude. The volcanic islands with their
hospitable inhabitants have all their own character. The marinas are modern and are offering all facilities. The small
fishing villages and beautiful anchor bays are making the archipelago the paradise for water sport fanatics.
The Canarian stream (a part of the Atlantic Gulf Stream) who reaches all the islands and the Northern Passat winds are
tempering the temperature. In the summer the temperature will be approx. 30 degrees.
The weather circumstances at the Canary Islands have their influences from the Azores High and the Passat winds, that
will give and almost constantly Northern wind the whole year through. The wind acceleration zones are famous on the
Canary Islands and the golden rule here is: "Reef early and generously, because the wind will increase by another
15 knots". Spectacular sailing moments guaranteed!! In the Southern areas of the islands the wind is normally moderate and this
gives you relaxing sailing moments under full sail.
The sailing area is pretty big. If you like long trips of more then one day, you can leave from Puerto de Mogan to the
Western islands and return by Lanzarote or Fuerteventura. As well the Portuguese island Madeira, at a distance of 250 miles
North is one of the possibilities.
You can make your choise of beautiful, well equiped yachts in Gran Canaria (Puerto de Mogan), Tenerife (Santa Cruz) and Lanzarote (Puerto Calero).
